ISLAMABAD – More widespread monsoon rains are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday with occasional gaps.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate most parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over most parts of the country.
Under these weather conditions, widespread monsoon rains and windstorms are expected in the twin cities, Potohar region, upper/central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and northeastern/southern Balochistan on Friday night and the next two days. Heavy rains may also occur at isolated places during the period.
Downpour may cause urban flooding in low lying areas of Hyderabad, Karachi, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpur Khas, Thatta and Badin. Heavy rains may generate flash floods in local nullahs/streams/hill torrents of Murree, Galiyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Musakhel, Barkhan, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Kalat, Dadu and Qamber Shahdadkot.
Landslides may cause roads closures in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat and Kashmir.
Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 36°C and 38°C on Saturday and Sunday, and between 38°C and 40°C on Monday.
Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34°C and 36°C on Saturday and Sunday, and between 36°C and 38°C on Monday.
Meanwhile, rains and windstorms with isolated heavy falls occurred in Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Kashmir and northeast/south Balochistan during the last 24 hours.

Nokkundi and Sibbi remained the hottest places in Pakistan, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 43°C. The maximum temperature in Jacobabad and Dalbandin was recorded at 42°C.
In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 70 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 35°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 64 per cent.
