ISLAMABAD – Severe heat will likely subside gradually as intermittent rains and windstorms are predicted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Friday night and during the weekend.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea penetrate upper and central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave will likely approach upper parts tonight.

Under these conditions, intermittent rains and windstorms are predicted in the twin cities, Potohar region, northeast Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas on Friday night and during the weekend. Isolated heavy rains are expected during the period. Hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 41°C and 43°C on Saturday and between 40°C and 42°C on Sunday.

Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 38°C and 40°C on Saturday and between 37°C and 39°C on Sunday.

Meanwhile, hot and dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country while very hot in plain areas during the last 24 hours.

Sibbi and Jacobabad remained the hottest places in Pakistan, where the maximum temperature was recorded at 49°C. The maximum temperature in Dadu was recorded at 48°C, and in Dalbandin, Khairpur, Mohenjo-Daro and Rohri at 47°C.

In Islamabad, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 62 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 57 per cent.
