Islamabad experienced the coldest day of this winter season as the mercury dropped to 01°C on Tuesday.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave prevails over Kashmir, which will likely move eastwards.
Under these conditions, cold and dry weather is expected in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan on Tuesday evening and night and during the next two days. Freezing weather is expected in hilly areas. Fog is expected to persist in Islamabad, Punjab, upper Sindh and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between -01°C and 01°C on Wednesday and Thursday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02°C and 04°C on Wednesday and Thursday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Very cold weather prevailed in hilly areas. Smog/fog persisted in Islamabad and the plains of Punjab, lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
However, light rain occurred at isolated places in Kashmir, Murree and the coastal areas of Balochistan. Snowfall also occurred in Murree.

Leh remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 11°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Ziarat was recorded at -09°C, in Astore at -08°C, in Kalat and Kalam at -07°C, in Skardu at -06°C, in Gupis at -05°C, and in Hunza, Malam Jabba, Parachinar, Quetta and Nathiagali at -04°C.
In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 01°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 100 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 04°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 100 per cent.
