LAHORE – The police claimed that the investigations about the 21-year old girl student who attempted to commit suicide from the second floor of a local private university would to be finalized yet as her statement was still pending.
“The initial findings suggest the matter appears to be of a domestic nature,” said the police.
They said that the final outcome of the investigation would come out only after recording her statement but the student is critically injured and her statement was not recorded.
“Fatima arrived at the university at 7:58am but did not attend her class,” said the police.
They said that the student remained on a phone call for about 27 minutes before jumping from the second floor at around 8:30am.
“The student deleted her last call from her mobile phone prior to the incident,” disclosed the initial investigations.
The police said that the student was given a new mobile phone by her brothers a day before the incident after her previous phone stopped working. Statements of both brothers are being recorded.
They said the student had recently appeared in a test and scored 18 out of 35 marks. She had reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over her result to her father and brothers.
However, a final conclusion will be reached after completion of the investigation and recording of the student’s statement.
The student, identified as Fatima, a D-Pharm student, allegedly attempted to take her life by jumping from the second floor of a university building. She was initially taken to the university hospital in critical condition and later shifted to Lahore General Hospital, where she remains under treatment with serious injuries.
The police said the victim sustained severe injuries to her spine and lungs, due to which her statement could not be recorded so far. The family has also not submitted any formal request for legal action.
The incident has raised concerns as a similar tragedy occurred at the same university a few days earlier, when another D-Pharm student died after jumping from the fourth floor of a building.
According to police, CCTV footage from inside and around the university has been taken into custody to reconstruct the sequence of events. Statements of family members are also being recorded to examine different aspects of the case.
