ISLAMABAD – A district and sessions court in Islamabad has rejected all 8 appeals filed by private airline Airblue in the case related to the tragic plane crash in 2010.
The court has ordered Airblue to pay a total of Rs5.4178 billion as compensation to the victims’ families.
The court issued a written decision on the 8 appeals filed by both the victims and Airblue. The written judgment was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Dr. Rasool Bakhsh.
In its decision, the court ruled on the civil claims for compensation resulting from the plane crash.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs1 million per appeal, totaling Rs8 million for Airblue for filing the appeals, which were seen as a waste of judicial time.
Details of Compensation
Sumaira Naveed Choudhry and two others are to receive compensation of Rs143.189 million.
Rashid Zulfiqar and four others will be compensated with Rs630.94 million.
Mohammad Ilyas is to be awarded Rs1101.868 million.
Gohar Rahman is entitled to Rs507.348 million.
Junaid ul Zaman Hamid will receive Rs996.048 million.
Mohammad Javed Khan will be compensated with Rs857.025 million.
Salima Rajput will get Rs572.666 million in compensation.
Colonel (R) Shamim Akhtar will receive Rs606 million.
These compensation amounts were determined by the court as part of the civil suit for damages following the crash.
Appeals and Legal Proceedings
The victims had previously appealed against the decision made by a Civil Judge, who had allowed a partial compensation of Rs10 million per person. The case was later moved to the high court, which transferred it back to the sessions court for further proceedings within its jurisdiction.
