The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) with the support of the European Union (EU) and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD) inaugurated on Wednesday a ‘second line’ border control office at Islamabad International Airport (IIA).
The office provides improved capabilities to detect and investigate suspected cases of irregular migration, migrant smuggling and trafficking in human beings detected at the airport.
The office was inaugurated by Mohsin Hassan Butt, Director General (DG), FIA who termed it “a message to those migrant smugglers and traffickers that prey on the vulnerabilities and hopes of ordinary people.”
Mr. Phillipp Gross, Deputy Head of Delegation, European Union Delegation was also present on the occasion.
Mohsin Butt while expressing delight at the latest facility installed at the IIA said, the FIA has never been more committed or better equipped to bring you to justice, and “we will not rest,” he said.
With advanced forensic and IT equipment, the office will allow FIA immigration officers to conduct advanced examinations of travel documents such as passports and visas, as well as receive up-to-date information on the latest trends in document forgeries from international databases.
The office will increase the rate of detections of irregular migration attempts using fake or fraudulent documents via Islamabad airport, as well as improve the overall functioning of the immigration process for legitimate travellers.
