DUBAI – A major regional disruption unfolded after Israel launched large-scale airstrikes on Iran which led to widespread airspace closures across the Middle East on Friday.
In response to escalating tensions, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan shut down their airspace, causing significant impact on global aviation routes.
The real-time tracking service FlightRadar24 said that the dozens of commercial flights were rerouted after the closures of airspace over Israel, Iran, Iraq, and Jordan. The situation has severely affected international air traffic, forcing airlines to cancel or divert numerous flights.
Prominent carriers including Air India, FlyDubai, Emirates, and Qatar Airways have suspended several routes.
FlyDubai announced the suspension of all flights to Oman, Beirut, Damascus, Iran and Israel.
Air India, meanwhile, recalled its inbound flights to Iran from New York, London and Vancouver.
Iraqi state media confirmed that all airports across the country have been shut down. Jordan also formally declared the closure of its airspace due to heightened security concerns.
