Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that discussions on a comprehensive agreement with the United States will not move forward as long as threats remain.
Referring to paragraph 13 of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Iran and the US, he stressed that negotiations on a final deal “will not commence” under such conditions.
In a post on X, Araghchi said that “millions of proud Iranians” were attending the funeral ceremonies for the country’s slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He added that neither the Iranian people nor the nation’s armed forces would be intimidated by threats, urging the US to “honour your signature.”
His remarks followed comments by US President Donald Trump, who said the United States would either secure an agreement with Iran or “finish the job.”
Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Monday, Trump said the US could destroy Iran’s bridges and disable its energy infrastructure within an hour. He also claimed Iran was facing severe financial difficulties, adding that the US had not provided the country with any funds.
