KARACHI – India has arrested 11 Pakistani fishermen who were reportedly on their way to earn a livelihood.
The fishermen were detained, and their boat was confiscated. This was confirmed by Kamil Shah, spokesperson for the Coastal Media Centre.
Shah stated that all the arrested fishermen are from Ibrahim Hyderi, a coastal area in Karachi. He further explained that all the fishermen belong to the same family and were simply seeking work when they were captured.
In a related development, on October 13, 2025, 48 fishermen who had been held in Indian custody were released and returned to Karachi.
According to the spokesperson for the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society (FCS), the fishermen arrived at the Edhi Centre in Karachi after their release.
The fishermen had been arrested between 2017 and 2021 from the Sir Creek region. The release of these fishermen was facilitated by the Fishermen’s Cooperative Society, with support from the Pakistani High Commission in India, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
FCS Chairperson, Fatima Majid, along with her team, had welcomed the fishermen back upon their arrival.
