Installation of modern irrigation system should be ensured to increase agri production

The installation of modern irrigation system to the tail end of crops should be ensured so that the farmers can get water according to the needs of the crops and our agricultural production can increase while cost of production can be reduced.

Secretary Agriculture Punjab Wasif Khurshid expressed his views while presiding over a departmental briefing. Director General (Water Management) Malik Muhammad Akram briefed that under the new development plans, 100 unimproved water courses are being improved, 50% increase in the length of 300 water courses, provision of 600 Laser Land levelers on subsidy and construction of water storage ponds on 120 farms and 40 solar pumping systems for their operating are being completed.

Apart from this, the installation of High Efficiency Irrigation System on 1500 acres and the installation of solar system for their operation is also in process. He further said that activities of on farm water management indirectly beneficial for water saving of 6million acres feet per annum while direct benefit to 20 million acre in entire Punjab.

Over 1 million acre barren land converted into irrigated land. Of this, 1 lakh acres have been converted into high-value agriculture. While appreciating the performance, Secretary Agriculture, Punjab said that the fruits of agricultural development projects must reach the farmers.
