RAWALPINDI – The deputy commissioner of Rawalpindi has issued a directive halting the approval and processing of inheritance mutations until proper partitioning of Khewats is carried out.
In a circular sent to all Assistant Directors of Land Records and Service Centre Incharges in Rawalpindi District, the DC emphasized that no inheritance mutation or transfer should be approved or processed unless the Khewats are lawfully divided and partitioned.
The directive is aimed at ensuring compliance with land record procedures and preventing disputes or irregularities in inheritance matters.
Authorities have been instructed to strictly follow these instructions, which will remain in effect until further notice.
This step is part of ongoing efforts to streamline land record processes and ensure transparency in inheritance-related transactions within the district.

A large piece of land in an area is given a number called the Khewat number. Within it, further pieces are called Khasra number.
Inherited Property Mutation
Inherited property mutation is the formal procedure for transferring property ownership from a deceased individual to their rightful heirs in government records.
This ensures legal acknowledgment of the new owners and facilitates smooth tax payments. The process usually involves submitting documents such as death certificates, FRC, CNICs, and a succession certificate or Wirasat Nama.
A Patwari or revenue officer then updates the land records, ensuring all heirs are properly included to avoid any future conflicts.
