LAHORE – On the orders of the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, the Lahore Traffic Police have launched a citywide crackdown against vehicles using fake and tampered number plates, employing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to identify violators.
According to officials, action was taken against more than 1,000 vehicles over the past 48 hours for various number plate-related violations.
As part of the operation, 73 vehicles with fake number plates were detected and apprehended through AI-based surveillance systems.
CTO Lahore Dr Athar Waheed said that traffic staff deployed at the Safe City Authority are carrying out 24-hour monitoring of vehicles using camera surveillance to identify fake number plates in real time.
He added that cases have been ordered to be registered against drivers found using fake or tampered number plates.
The CTO further warned that strict action would also be taken against shopkeepers involved in manufacturing and selling fake number plates.
“No excuse will be accepted from those who alter number plates or use fake numbers. Action will be taken without discrimination,” Dr Athar Waheed said.
The CTO advised citizens to install number plates strictly in accordance with the designs approved by the Excise Department to avoid legal action.
