ISLAMABAD – Uzma Khanum, sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, met brother and the latter is in good health, putting to rest swirling rumors about his condition.
As Khan remains physically well, his sister lamented mental torture inside the prison on the former premier. Uzma was allowed a 30-minute visit with Imran, ending weeks of restrictions that had barred family and party leaders from seeing him.
Accompanied by hundreds of PTI supporters outside the jail, she told reporters that the former premier has been confined to his cell almost all day, with only brief periods outside. “His health is perfectly fine, but he is very angry. He said they are subjecting him to mental torture,” Uzma said.
The visit comes amid escalating protests by PTI members outside the Islamabad High Court and Adiala Jail, demanding that Imran be granted his court-mandated visitation rights. The party claims that no one, including family members, had been allowed to meet the former prime minister since October 27.
Section 144 was imposed in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, prohibiting gatherings of four or more people. Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry issued a stern warning that the law would be enforced without exception, urging PTI lawmakers to comply. He linked the restrictions to security concerns, claiming terrorists might exploit political rallies and gatherings to spread fear, even using social media apps and VPNs to conceal their identities.
Minister added that police from KP would remain in their province and would not be used for political purposes elsewhere. He also referenced the violent PTI protests of May 9, 2023, warning that similar chaos could unfold if authorities do not act. When asked whether Imran might be moved to a prison in Islamabad, Chaudhry said it was premature to confirm, noting that the facility is still under construction and staff training is ongoing.
Rawalpindi police reported that 3,000 security personnel had been deployed to maintain law and order, monitor key routes, and enforce Section 144. Roads leading to Adiala Jail and the Red Zone, including the Serena Hotel and NADRA offices, were blocked.
PTI leaders, including Asad Qaiser, vowed to continue their demonstrations outside the Islamabad High Court and Adiala Jail, accusing authorities of failing to implement court orders on visitation rights. In recent weeks, Imran’s sisters and party members have staged multiple sit-ins outside the jail, some ending in clashes and arrests.
