The authorities in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir continued to keep senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest, today, and disallowed him to offer Juma prayers.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid, Srinagar, in a statement said that yesterday the authorities informed them that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq would be allowed to come to Jamia Masjid for the Friday prayers and sermon, but today again put him under house detention.
It said Mirwaiz is being unjustly prevented from carrying out his religious duties at the Jamia Masjid, a place of significant spiritual importance to the Muslims. This restriction not only impedes on his fundamental rights but also on the rights of the community members who benefit from his teachings.
Anjuman said that despite repeated appeals to authorities for his release from all quarters, it is falling on deaf ears. It further said, “We place our hopes in the judicial system to uphold justice, ensuring the restoration of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s religious and civil rights, as the matter is scheduled for hearing in court on March 6th.
It urged the court to recognize the gravity of this matter and allow Mirwaiz to visit the mosque on Fridays, ensuring that the authorities cease their interference in religious practices. “The freedom to practice religion freely without hindrance is a fundamental right, and we request the courts for its restoration to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq,” it maintained.—KMS
