IESCO operation against power pilferage continues

On the directives of the government, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has expedited the drive against power pilferage and imposed a fine of Rs 49.7 million for stealing electricity and recoveries exceeding 79.2 million rupees have been made from defaulters who haven’t paid their electricity bills in various areas in the current month,said IESCO Spokesman in a press release.

During the campaign, initiated by the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Ministry of Energy, 724 electricity thieves were apprehended, more than 1.84 million units were charged, and fines exceeding 49.7 million were collected. FIRs were also registered against 14 electricity thieves, and the meters of electricity theft users were disconnected.
In addition to actions against electricity theft, a comprehensive recovery campaign is also underway against electricity users who haven’t paid their electricity bills for three months or have meter disconnections due to non-payment.

During this ongoing campaign, IESCO recovery teams have successfully recovered more than 79.2 million.
