ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has implemented its National Blood Transfusion Policy for the first time in the country’s history following approval by the federal cabinet, marking a major development in the health sector.
The policy has been made operational through sustained efforts by the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
The formulation and implementation of the policy were facilitated by SIFC through extensive inter-ministerial and inter-provincial coordination.
The initiative represents a significant step forward in the health and biotechnology sectors, introducing the plasma fractionation process aimed at achieving self-reliance in plasma production.
Officials said the policy will also help Pakistan gain access to international markets by enabling the export potential of plasma-derived products.
This development is expected to strengthen the country’s healthcare system while contributing to economic growth through biotechnology-based exports.
Dr. Durnaz Jamal, Secretary of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority, said that a long-pending policy has finally been implemented with the support of SIFC. She noted that the move reflects the government’s comprehensive strategy and sustained efforts to reinforce the health sector.
Brigadier (Retd) Dr. Nuzhat Mashhad, a hematology expert, welcomed the development and congratulated SIFC, relevant ministries, provinces, and health professionals for contributing their expert input in shaping the policy.
