Heavy rainfall has triggered flooding in Nala Lai, with a high-level flood situation reported at Gowalmandi and Katarian in Rawalpindi.
A low-level flood has been reported in the Indus River at Kalabagh and Chashma following increased water flows.
At Kalabagh, the inflow was recorded at 288,000 cusecs, while the outflow stood at 280,000 cusecs.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab is closely monitoring the evolving flood situation.
DG PDMA Muhammad Saif Anwar Jappa said, on the Punjab government’s directives, flood relief camps have been established in affected areas. He said the camps would provide displaced people with shelter, food, clean drinking water, medical assistance and other essential facilities.
Jappa urged citizens to remain vigilant amid the prevailing weather and flood conditions and avoid unnecessary visits to rivers, canals, streams and rainwater channels. He also advised people against going to such areas for recreational activities.
He particularly urged parents to keep a close watch on children and strictly prevent them from entering or bathing in rivers, canals, streams or floodwater.
The PDMA chief advised citizens to follow the instructions issued by relevant authorities during emergencies and take timely precautionary measures to protect themselves and their families.
