Punjab Law and Cooperatives Minister Raja Basharat on Friday declared that the PTI government led by Imran Khan and Usman Buzdar does not believe in retaliation of any kind or political victimization, saying that every step of the government aims at upholding the rule of law.

Punjab Law and Cooperatives Minister Raja Basharat was replying to PML-N MPA from Pakpattan Mian Naveed against his arrest in the Punjab Assembly here on Friday.

“Honorable Member of Punjab Assembly Mian Naveed has spoken of respect for the law, so he should remember that the FIR registered against him was due to slapping the Assistant Commissioner. It is not about respecting the law but about taking the law into one’s own hands.”

The law minister said that Mian Naveed’s arrest was due to the cancellation of pre-arrest bail in the court even though the incident of slapping AC was six months old on which the esteemed member could not satisfy the court.

“The government has nothing to do with all this, but instead of enslaving the institutions as in the past, we have given them freedom of action,” he said.

Raja Basharat further said that the allegation of ill-treatment or abuse in the police station with the esteemed member of the assembly was not correct as not only his room but the entire police station lost supply of electricity that time.

He further said, “according to Mian Naveed he did not have medical examination.

Therefore, the government has directed the police to conduct a medical examination of Mian Naveed as per the court orders.”
