Minister for Local Government, Housing, and Town Planning, Sindh, Saeed Ghani, announced the commencement of a comprehensive verification process for all municipal employees across the province. The initiative aims to ensure transparency and accuracy in disbursing salaries directly to employees’ accounts after biometric verification.
Minister Ghani, during a sudden visit to the City Institute of Labor and Communication (CILC) and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) office on Thursday, reiterated the importance of transparency in all ongoing projects. He was briefed on various matters, including the verification of municipal employees and the implementation of biometric systems. Under the project’s scope, the World Bank has allocated billions of rupees for upcoming projects in Karachi, to be implemented in the next fiscal year.
Minister Ghani was briefed on these projects, along with other matters related to municipal employees’ verification and biometric data collection. Project Director CILC, Asif Jan Sadiq, informed the provincial minister about the successful verification of municipal employees in Karachi’s 12 towns. Notably, identification was made of 950 ghost employees and 200 individuals who were drawing salaries from two different departments using a single identity card. Similarly, in the 12 towns, 35 ghost employees were identified. Minister Ghani instructed for the verification of employees at the UC level across all towns in addition to the verification already conducted at the UC level.
He emphasized that after the verification of all municipal employees, their attendance should be marked biometrically, and their salaries should be directly deposited into their accounts. Furthermore, PD CILC mentioned that in the upcoming fiscal year, funds from the KMC will be allocated for the construction of eight community centers, two playgrounds, and numerous roads. Additionally, a system has been developed for the collection of Urban Immovable Property Tax (UIPT) from Karachi in the first phase of the Urban Immovable Property Tax (UIPT) project. Minister Ghani expressed his desire for the timely establishment of Garbage Transfer Stations (GTS) to scientifically dispose of tons of waste in Karachi.
