A large number of visitors, particularly from the Diplomatic Enclave and families attended the German Christmas Market, held in the Serena Hotel gardens to get souvenirs, chocolate and cookies as well as traditional items that could be presented to their loved ones as Christmas gifts.

The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany had organized the Christmas Market where a number of stalls offered a variety of things and food to the visitors. The sale would go for charity.

The stalls included traditional handicrafts, silver jewellery, Christmas décor and pottery, and a collection of souvenirs. The German embassy chefs had baked 60kg of cookies and several square metres of delicious German cakes. They also manufactured wreaths and made available chocolate as well as other delicacies, toys and Christmas decorations from Germany.

In his remarks, German Ambassador Alfred Grannas expressed gratitude to the donors who made the event possible. “Without you, it would not be possible. Whatever you consume here will go for a good cause because the earnings of this event will go to charity in Pakistan,” he said.

A beautiful Christmas tree was the centre of attraction of everyone in the space separating the food court and marketplace and Santa Claus was also there distributing sweets among children.

Saint Faith’s children performed Christmas carols and popular songs in English, German, Spanish and Urdu, including ‘We wish you a Merry Christmas.’

Vendors from other cities also exhibited their stalls.

They included Oriental crafts, Paper miracles, Patch yellow, Meem Candle studio, clay works, Mary pots, Menika Mines, Cashmir Shawls, Saad Brass Treasures, Glitters stained Glass and Mosaic Work, Pak Mission Society and Shehnaz collection.
