The Indian authorities have suspended four officers of the Tihar jail for presenting jailed Hurriyat leader Yasin Malik in the Indian Supreme Court.

The suspended officers include one Deputy Superintendent, two Assistant Superintendents and one other officer.

Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta had written to Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla on how Yasin Malik was presented before the Indian Su-preme Court, yesterday.

Deputy Inspector General (Prisons Headquar-ters) Rajiv Singh said that an inquiry would be conducted to find out the lapse and fix the responsibility of erring officials.

Yasin Malik is facing a life sentence in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail after being convicted in a false case by a special court of India’s dreaded National Investigation Agency (NIA) in May, last year.

Tushar Mehta in the letter claimed that Yasin Malik’s presence in the Supreme Court was a seri-ous security lapse and even claimed that he could have escaped, forcibly taken away or could have been killed.

Mehta further said that considering it a matter serious enough, he brought it to the notice of the Home Secretary for taking suitable action and steps.

Mehta’s action also shows the cowardice of the Indians as they are afraid of a peace-loving and unarmed Kashmiri leader. However, the fact is that whenever an illegally detained unarmed and hand-cuffed Kashmiri leader or ordinary person is presented before any Indian court, scores of Indian police, paramilitary and army personnel escort him and huge deployment is made on the routes that lead to the court.—KMS
