NEW DELHI – Former Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Noida, the local Indian authorities claimed on Wednesday.
The police said that the 75-year-old retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, a member of the 1975 batch, was found dead at his apartment in Sector 82, Noida, on September 6.
The investigators reportedly recovered a note from the apartment that is believed to have been written by Mehta. The police said the note referred to his mental and health-related difficulties as factors behind the alleged suicide.

A forensic team examined the apartment and collected evidence from the scene as part of the investigation.
At the time of the incident, Mehta’s wife, Sumanti Mehta, was in Dehradun with their son. She reportedly became concerned after Mehta repeatedly failed to answer her phone calls.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and examining the contents and authenticity of the alleged note. His body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination and completion of the required legal procedures.
