BELAGAVI – A man allegedly stabbed his friend to death following an argument over eating more pieces of chicken during a party in Karnataka’s Belagavi district, the local media reported on Wednesday.
The incident reportedly took place when two friends, both employees of a local steel company, were having a party together.
According to the reports, an argument broke out between the two men over the number of chicken pieces one of them had eaten. The disagreement reportedly turned into a heated exchange before the situation escalated into violence.
Police said the accused, identified as Arun Kumar, allegedly pulled out a knife during the argument and stabbed his friend, Seetaram, in the chest.
After the attack, Kumar reportedly took the injured man to a government hospital for treatment. However, police allege that he later attempted to conceal the circumstances of the incident by portraying it as an accident.
The accused reportedly told authorities that Seetaram had been injured after falling from a building.
Seetaram, however, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police reached the hospital after receiving information about the incident and took Arun Kumar into custody for questioning.
During interrogation, Kumar allegedly confessed to stabbing his friend, according to media reports.
The police have initiated further proceedings and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The local authorities are also examining the events leading up to the argument and the accused’s alleged attempt to present the stabbing as an accidental fall.
The incident has drawn attention because of the reportedly minor nature of the dispute that preceded the fatal attack.
