ISLAMABAD – The flour prices have increased once again across Pakistan, adding to the financial burden on households already struggling with the rising cost of living.
The latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed that the maximum price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has climbed to Rs2,900, up from the previous high of Rs2,800, reflecting a continued upward trend in the prices of the staple food item.
Karachi recorded the highest price in the country, where a 20kg flour bag is being sold for up to Rs2,900. In Islamabad, Quetta and Khuzdar, the maximum price has reached Rs2,800, while consumers in Peshawar are paying up to Rs2,750.
The price stands at Rs2,747 in Rawalpindi, Rs2,740 in Hyderabad, Rs2,700 in Bannu, Rs2,560 in Sukkur and Rs2,500 in Larkana.
In Punjab, a 20kg flour bag is priced at Rs2,420 in Multan, Rs2,400 in both Gujranwala and Bahawalpur, Rs2,333 in Sialkot, Rs2,300 in Faisalabad, Rs2,250 in Lahore and Rs2,240 in Sargodha.
The latest figures indicate a widening variation in flour prices across different cities, with consumers in several urban centres paying significantly higher rates than those in other parts of the country.
The continued increase in flour prices has further strained household budgets, particularly for low- and middle-income families. Consumers have expressed concern over the rising cost of essential commodities, saying that higher food prices, coupled with increased electricity, gas and fuel costs, have reduced their purchasing power.
They urged the government to take effective measures to stabilise prices and ensure the availability of essential food items at affordable rates.
