LAHORE – In a series of police encounters late last night, at least five suspects were allegedly shot dead while in the police custody in Lahore, the sources said on Tuesday.
The incidents took place in different areas, including Model Town, Township, Iqbal Town, and Saddar Division, where the deceased criminals were being held under arrest.
The police sources said that the five men — identified as Rafqat, Shahid Ikram, Zahid, Nadir Afzaal and Kamran Iqbal — were in the custody of law enforcement for their involvement in various criminal activities, including drug trafficking. The suspects were being taken by police officers for a recovery operation when their accomplices attempted to rescue them.
During the operation, the criminals’ associates launched an attack in an attempt to free the prisoners, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Fortunately, the police personnel involved in the operation emerged unscathed. However, the five alleged criminals were killed in the ensuing shootout.
The bodies of the deceased individuals were later transferred to the morgue for further examination. Police authorities confirmed that the suspects were involved in serious criminal activities, including drug distribution and other high-profile offenses.
The police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
