First Monsoon Spell Starts Subsides Humidity

The first spell of monsoon started on Thursday morning with light to moderate shower in the provincial capital and adjacent areas brought a relief from scorching heat wave and humidity.

The rain started at 3.20am and remained continue till 1.20 pm with occasional gaps, with an average pouring 25 mm however maximum rainfall was recorded 58 mm in Nishter Town while Tajpura, Mughlapura, Airport and Jail Road also received 44, 36, 33 and 23 mm rain, respectively.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, moist currents are penetrating upper and central parts of the country and under the influence of these meteorological conditions, rain wind/thundershower with scattered heavy falls (at times very heavy)

is expected in Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Mianwali and Potohar Region till Sunday with occasional gaps.

Rain wind/thundershower is expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah till Saturday. Monsoon spell is also expected in most parts of the Kashmir/Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh during the same period.

Heavy to very heavy rains may generate flash flood in local nullahs/streams from till 1st July while heavy Downpour may cause urban flood in low lying areas of Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar till 01st July.

Landslides may cause roads closure in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet spell.

Heavy downpour/windstorm and lightning may affect daily routines, and may damage weak structures like roof/wall of Kacha houses, electric poles, bill boards, vehicles and solar panels etc during the forecast period.

Farmers are advised to manage their activities keeping in view the weather forecast, and travelers and tourists are advised to remain extra cautious and manage their travelling according to weather conditions and avoid any untoward situation during the wet spell.

Four people lost their lives and 27 others sustained injuries in rain and storm-related incidents across Punjab on Thursday.

According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson, in Okara, five-year-old Dua Fatima died when the roof of her house collapsed in Basti Riazabad while two others were injured.

An incident of lightning injured a man in the district. In Depalpur, two people were injured in a roof collapse. In Sheikh Basti, a girl was injured when a roof caved in, and another injury was reported in Adda Gamber due to a similar incident. In Sohawa, Jhelum, one man drowned in a seasonal stream while two others were injured.

In Kot Barkat Ali, Khanewal, a man died from a lightning and another was injured.

In Bahawalnagar (Bolewala), one fatality occurred due to a roof collapse. In Faisalabad, separate roof collapse incidents in Jaranwala (240 Mor) and Peepal Colony left one person injured in each location.
