Ambassador Blome commends macroeconomic reforms
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Thursday reiterated the government’s resolve to carry on with broad-based reforms on taxation, energy and SOEs in a meeting with US Ambassador Donald Blome.
The finance minister underscored that the government was committed to raising the country’s tax-to-GDP ratio to 13.5pc in the next three years by plugging leakages and bringing untaxed sectors into the tax net.
Aurangzeb outlined the government’s commitment to Federal Board of Revenue reforms, which include appointing experts to the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited board.
He further stated that untaxed sectors will be integrated into the tax net.
Additionally, the Finance Minister mentioned that experts have been included in the Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited board as part of the FBR reforms.
While referring to the reforms as “work in progress,” Aurangzeb pointed to climate change and child malnutrition as significant threats to Pakistan’s long-term development.
Ambassador Donald Blome commended Pakistan’s macroeconomic reforms, particularly in the taxation and energy sectors, and reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation.
He also highlighted the importance of promoting high-quality US investment in Pakistan to foster economic growth.
Appreciating the government’s effort to improve macroeconomic stability, the ambassador underlined the US’ commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in technical and development initiatives and promoting high-quality US investment in Pakistan.
