The family of deceased businessman Mir Raza Ali has objected to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) conducting a forensic examination of his smartwatch.
Lawyer Jibran Nasir said on Thursday that he Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) souls be given the responsibility of examining the device.
Mir Raza Ali, an IBA graduate, was found dead in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 29, a day after he was reported missing. His father had rejected the possibility of suicide and alleged that his son was murdered.
According to the media reports, Nasir said the smartwatch had remained with the former head of the investigation committee for several days before being handed over to the NCCIA. He said the family had reservations about the NCCIA examining the device and preferred that it be sent to the PFSA.
Nasir also expressed concern over the possibility of the device being tampered with, pointing to the period during which it remained in the custody of the former committee head.
Meanwhile, the newly constituted investigation team, led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Amir Farooqi, has written four letters to the NCCIA.
The team has requested a forensic analysis of Ali’s smartwatch and sought information related to his social media profiles and other digital accounts.
The investigation team is scheduled to convene its second meeting at Ferozabad Police Station. After the meeting, investigators are expected to revisit the location where Ali was found dead as part of efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.
