Awards reflects Pakistan’s growing voice in advancing the global narrative of connectivity, peace: Faisal

Faisal Zahid Malik, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of the Pakistan Observer, has been honoured with the prestigious “Best Reporting Award” at the 2025 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road, held in Kunming, China. The award recognises his impactful journalism on China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), particularly the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and his consistent efforts in promoting bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and China.
The award was presented during a grand ceremony for the Silk Road Global News Awards 2025, organized by the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN) in collaboration with China’s leading newspaper, People’s Daily.
The awards were conferred by Mr. Wang Yubo, Governor of Yunnan Province, and Mr. Wang Ning, Secretary of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The 2025 edition of the Silk Road Global News Awards recognized outstanding contributions in the categories of Reporting, Special Coverage, and Multimedia Innovation. Media professionals from 110 countries and regions participated, with nearly 5,000 entries submitted. Out of these, 58 outstanding works were selected for honours, including the Pakistan Observer.

Pakistan’s continued presence among the winners reflects the country’s active media engagement in promoting the BRI’s vision of shared prosperity and regional connectivity.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Faisal Zahid Malik stated: “This award is not only a recognition of Pakistan Observer’s dedication to impartial and impactful reporting but also a reflection of Pakistan’s growing voice in advancing the global narrative of connectivity, peace, and development under the Belt and Road framework.”
He emphasized the transformative impact of the BRI and reiterated the responsibility of journalists to tell its story with accuracy, depth, and responsibility: “The Belt and Road Initiative has redefined global connectivity. It is our duty as journalists to ensure its story is told with integrity. Pakistan Observer remains fully committed to covering BRI developments and fostering mutual understanding.”
The 2025 Forum was attended by senior media executives, international journalists, and dignitaries from across the Belt and Road partner countries. Distinguished guests of honour from China included: Mr. Zheng Jianbang, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, Mr. Wang Ning, Secretary of the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Yunnan Province, Mr. Wang Gang, Deputy Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and Mr. Yu Shaoliang, President of People’s Daily.
This recognition in 2025 marks a significant milestone for Pakistani media, reaffirming its role in the global discourse on development and cooperation.
