ARIZONA – In a deeply moving address, Erika Kirk, wife of slain American social activist Charlie Kirk, forgave her husband’s killer during a massive memorial service attended by more than 63,000 people in Arizona.
Charlie Kirk, a prominent youth activist, was shot dead on September 10 by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson during a public debate at the University of Utah campus.
Speaking through tears, Erika said she chose forgiveness over hatred, reflecting her husband’s lifelong message of compassion. “I forgive my husband’s killer because Charlie always forgave others. Hatred cannot be answered with hatred,” she told the crowd, drawing emotional reactions from attendees including US President Donald Trump.
Erika emphasized that Charlie’s mission was to save young lives and guide them toward positivity—a legacy she vowed to continue despite the tragedy.
Earlier, the family members of suspect had said that Robinson openly disliked Kirk, describing him as a “man filled with hate.” They had said the suspect was a gun enthusiast who frequently visited shooting ranges.
The reports suggest Robinson who lived in a six-room house in Washington, Utah, could face the death penalty now if convicted. Witnesses told international media that the attack occurred as Kirk was speaking on the subject of gun control and mass shootings. Panic broke out in the hall as shots were fired, and emergency services rushed to the scene.
Kirk, known for his outspoken support of US President Donald Trump and his pro-Israel stance, had built a reputation as a controversial yet influential voice within American conservative politics.
He was considered a close ally of Trump and frequently defended right-wing positions in media appearances and at rallies.
In addition to his commentary work, Kirk was the founder of Turning Point USA, an organization established in 2012 to promote conservative values across US college campuses.
The group grew into one of the most recognizable conservative youth movements in the country, sparking both strong support and vocal opposition.
The killing has sent shockwaves across political and social circles in the United States, with tributes pouring in from conservative leaders and debates reigniting over gun violence and political polarization.
The investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack and whether Robinson acted alone.
