AS the polling date approaches, political parties are actively engaged in election campaigns, each boasting promising manifestos and commitments. Addressing a rally in Lahore, PML-N leader Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif pledged unwavering efforts from his party to propel the country towards progress. Meanwhile, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, during an interaction with students at the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute, positioned his party’s manifesto as a comprehensive remedy for the prevailing crises. He reiterated the commitment to providing relief to the underprivileged by eliminating subsidies for the affluent.

It is a common observation that political parties make grand claims and promises in the lead-up to elections, but the lack of implementation after assuming power often disappoints the public. It is advisable for political parties to present realistic promises and provide an accurate assessment of the economy to voters, steering clear of post-election embarrassment. The economic challenges are formidable, necessitating collaborative efforts by political parties post-election to devise a practical plan for the country’s advancement. Implementing such a plan will inevitably involve difficult decisions and painful reforms. Co-Chairman PPP, Asif Ali Zardari, highlighted in an interview that political crisis are likely to diminish post-elections. The political landscape in recent years has adversely affected the country’s economy and it is imperative to lower the political temperature and focus on addressing the challenges at hand. The nation anticipates a rational approach to prevail after the general election, with concerted efforts aimed at establishing political stability—a vital prerequisite for steering the country towards sustainable growth and realizing its full potential. In the aftermath of the elections, it becomes imperative for political parties to move beyond mere campaign rhetoric and engage in constructive dialogue, working collaboratively to address the multifaceted challenges facing the nation. Solidifying political stability requires a genuine willingness to find common ground. Leaders should prioritize the welfare of the nation over partisan interests, ensuring that policies and reforms are in the best interest of the people. This collaborative and inclusive approach is key to not only achieving short-term goals but also laying the groundwork for long-term success. Ultimately, the true success of any party goes beyond the act of winning elections; it lies in the sustained and earnest efforts to fulfil the promises made during the campaign.
