As the country approaches the general election, two major political parties have released their manifestos, outlining ambitious plans to address critical issues such as inflation, unemployment and economic growth. Both the PML-N and the PPP have pledged significant reforms and initiatives aimed at uplifting the nation. The PML-N, for instance, vows to reduce inflation and unemployment rates, create 10 million jobs and bring a substantial reduction in electricity prices. Meanwhile, the PPP promises relief from inflation through a focus on rights and governance reforms, shifting towards a welfare state.
Election manifestos play a crucial role in shaping the expectations of the electorate and serve as a contract between political parties and the people. However, the recurring issue lies in the execution of these promises. It is essential for political parties to move beyond mere rhetoric and actively work towards implementing their outlined agendas, fostering public trust and confidence.
It is paramount to acknowledge that Pakistan’s economy is still grappling with challenges. Serious and comprehensive reforms are required to steer the nation towards sustainable growth. This entails making tough decisions, cutting expenditures, enhancing productivity in key sectors like industries and agriculture, and prioritizing the indispensable role of the IT sector which holds significant potential to boost Pakistan’s exports and contribute substantially to economic growth.
Harnessing the power of technology can lead to job creation, increased efficiency, and innovation. Both the PML-N and PPP must recognize the importance of fostering the IT sector to realize their economic goals. However, much hinges on political stability. The soaring political temperature of the last few years has really badly hurt our economy. After the general elections, the political parties will have to work seriously to bring political stability. For this the political parties will have to engage in a genuine dialogue and commit to a shared vision of economic development, leaving no room for politics when it comes to the nation’s economic well-being.
