QUETTA – Justice Muhammad Ejaz Swati has been picked as new Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court. The decision was taken during a meeting at the Supreme Court, chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi.
The Commission of the apex court focused on selecting most suitable candidate for the position, ultimately deciding in favor of Justice Ejaz Swati. An official notification regarding his appointment is expected to be issued soon.
Profile: Justice Ejaz Swati
Justice Ejaz Swati was born on June 6, 1963, in Balochistan capital Quetta, and he was a distinguished legal career spanning over three decades. After getting his early education at Tameer-i-Nau Public School and holds MA English from the University of Balochistan.
He then took admission to University Law College, Quetta for his law degree and passed out in 1988. He started his legal practice in early 90s as an Advocate of the Balochistan High Court and later moved to the Supreme Court.
He has experience of high-profile criminal, civil, and constitutional cases across various courts, including Federal Shariat Court.
Before his elevation to High Court bench, Justice Swati served as a judge at the Anti-Terrorism Court in Turbat and as Legal Advisor to the National Bank of Pakistan. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Balochistan High Court in 2013 and confirmed as a permanent judge in 2015.
Earlier this year in February, he served as Acting Chief Justice of Balochistan High Court beginning in February 2025.
