A team of young researchers at the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi has identified novel drug candidates which are effective against COVID-19.
To identify novel drug candidates, the researchers’ team under the supervision of Dr. Zaheer-ul-HaqQasmi and Dr. ReazUddin used the state-of-the-art computational technology available at the Dr. Panjwani Center that works under the umbrella of International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, a press statement, issued by the ICCBS, University of Karachi, said on Sunday.
The said study, initiated in early February of 2020, was recently published in the “Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics”.
The study reports the details of extensive computational experiments that lead to the identification of three FDA approved drugs namely Remdesivir, Saquinavir and Darunavir and two natural compounds as possible drug candidates against COVID-19.
