Former US President and Republican Party Leader Donald Trump was shot in his ear in Butler, Pennsylvania, in an attempted assassination.
During the event, a shooter taking position in a building, shot Trump with a rifle, but the former president remained safe, and it resulted in one death and critical injuries to two others. Trump, who was presenting border crossing statistics, heard a gunshot that struck the upper part of his right ear.
Trump was spotted grabbing his right ear, then coming down on his knees behind the podium as Secret Service agents moved to cover him. Trump later revealed his Truth Social platform that he had been struck by a bullet that pierced the upper part of his right ear, causing bleeding.
So far, the identity and motive of the shooter remain unclear, prompting swift condemnation of the violence from both major political parties.
Trump campaign reported that he was recovering well, and has been discharged from the hospital. The incident occurred less than four months before the upcoming election, where Trump is set to face off against Democratic President Joe Biden in a closely contested race, as indicated by recent polls.
Donald Trump Shot at Rally
After the incident, US President Biden condemned the attack, saying such acts have no place in America and calling for national unity. He also spoke directly with Trump following the shooting, according to a White House official. Republican Representative Ronny Jackson revealed that his nephew had been injured at the rally.
The shooting raised immediate concerns about security measures by the Secret Service, responsible for providing lifetime protection to former presidents like Trump.
FBI is investigating the incident, with initial findings suggesting that the shots originated from outside the secured area designated by the Secret Service.
