I am shifting my father from Hospital to home only for the reason that he was rushed to the Hameed Latif Hospital due to a kidney problem but doctors admitted him to Corona ward and charged Rs0.7 million. These were the words uttered by Dr. Nouman, the son of the patient who is also a doctor by profession and a resident of Haroonabad.
Dr. Nouman can be heard in a video went viral on social media, saying his father Dr Arshad, suffering from diabetes and kidney problems, felt problem in his respiratory system for which was rushed to Hameed Latif Hospital. He continued that doctors at the hospital admitted him to Corona ward, saying that he was affected by Coronavirus. “Doctors kept my father for seven days in the hospital on the pretext of Coronavirus and charged Rs0.7 million as hospital and doctor charges. However on 7th day, it was transpired that the patient was feeling respiratory disorder because of a kidney problem and not due to Corona”, Dr. Nouman shared while tears rolling down on his cheeks. He regretted that doctors of the Hameed Latif Hospital played havoc with the health of his father for seven days and continued treatment of Corona instead of kidney. “This negligence by doctors resulted in the kidney failure of my father and ultimately doctors had to put him on dialysis.” Signaling towards his father he said: “The man who visited hospital on his feet was today being shifted home on wheelchair. What sort of treatment is being given to people in this hospital? I am a doctor and my family is suffering from such inhuman attitude of the doctors, not to talk of the lay people falling prey to such animal-like treatment on daily basis,” Dr. Nouman lamented. To a question of who was the consultant of your father, he said Dr. Raja Yasir was the consultant who was behind this heinous business in the name of treatment. He said that there are innocent people in this hospital admitted in the name of Corona and doctors are looting them with both hands. People do not even know that the havoc is being played with their health. To another query Nouman said, “Yes I am a doctor consultant physician and that is why I am leaving this hospital today, what I had been listening about Hameed Latif Hospital in the past, today I have seen with my eyes and everything has turned out to be true”.
We are leaving the hospital with the hope that health authorities will take notice of this heinous business being run under the cover of treatment. Dr. Nouman said, “ We are affording people and six or seven lac rupees does not matter for us but how the common man can afford such huge money for the fake treatment”. We faced cruelty and doctors played with the life and health of my father who is responsible for this heinous act, there must be someone who should fix the responsibility and doctors responsible should be taken to task. In the end of the video Dr. appealed to the masses to boycott the Hameed Latif Hospital and shift their patients as early as possible to avoid the cruelty of the doctors in the name of treatment.
Story does not end here another patient seeking anonymity said that he was suffering from infertility due to poor sperm count. Somebody advised him to visit Hameed Latif since the hospital was widely known for the said treatment. He said, “I reached the hospital situated on Ferozpur road, pamphlets, banners and booklets welcomed me with the persuasion to go for IVF (In-Vitro-Fertilization). It’s one of the more widely known types of assisted reproductive technology (ART). IVF works by using a combination of medicines and surgical procedures to help sperm fertilize an egg, and help the fertilized egg implant in the woman’s uterus. It is a very costly treatment which costs at least four to six lac rupees. After waiting a long time for my turn when I entered the doctor’s room he after witnessing my semen analysis reports immediately said your sperm count is poor so you will have to adopt IVF procedure for fertilization. I said, doctor is not there any medicine to improve this count, he said yes. I said please recommend then. Then he said, I am a doctor and I know better what to recommend to a patient, don’t argue with me”.
An editor of an English daily was admitted to the above said hospital last year due to Coronavirus. He had to pay Rs. 6 lacs for poor treatment of seven days. During treatment he was kept with another patient in the room and no proper check up was provided, paramedical staff also avoided visiting patients on time for medication. Patient had to wait hours for medication and even food and there was no proper check and balance by the hospital management.
When this scribe contacted the landline of Hameed Latif Hospital telephone operator provided a cell number of DMS hospital. That cell was attended by a female doctor and on a question to know the viewpoint of the hospital over the issue she said that she will ask the person concerned to call you back. When nobody called back a second call was made to DMS she said that she was tracing the person but to no avail.
