The Election Commission of Pakistan has said that the delimitation of the constituencies for the general elections will be completed by the second week of August.
It may be recalled that during the hearing of Speaker Rowling s suo motu notice case, the Supreme Court summoned the Chief Election Commissioner.
The Chief Election Commissioner, while expressing his inability to hold immediate elections, had said that it was necessary to conduct new constituencies before the elections which could take four months.
An important meeting of the Election Commission was held chaired by CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja in which the Secretary Election Commission gave a full briefing on the work done on constituencies and the latest developments.
The ECP was informed that the Constituency Committees will submit the initial delimitation of constituencies of all National and Provincial Assemblies to the Election Commission on May 25, 2022, under Section 19 of the Elections Act, 2017.
The statement further stated that the ECP will hear and decide on objections and suggestions on delimitation from July 1 to June 30, 2022, while the final zoning will be published in the second week of August.
The Commission expressed satisfaction over the progress made so far concerning the delimitation of constituencies and directed that all the work should be completed on merit and by the schedule fixed by the Election Commission.
