Crime Control in Sheikhupura

The true measure of police performance is not merely the number of cases registered or suspects arrested. The real success of an effective policing system is reflected in a reduction in crime, timely resolution of citizens’ complaints, professional investigation, action against wanted criminals, welfare of police martyrs and Ghazis, and protection of the lives and property of citizens. The performance of Sheikhupura Region Police under the leadership of the RPO reflects progress across these important areas.

According to the available performance figures, overall crime in Sheikhupura Region declined by 26 percent in 2026 compared with 2025. This is an encouraging indicator of improved crime prevention and field policing. In a large police region, where crime patterns vary from district to district, achieving a sustained reduction requires effective supervision, intelligence based policing, patrolling and continuous monitoring.

The reduction in serious crimes is particularly significant. Murder cases declined by 15 percent, attempted murder cases by 47 percent, while robbery cases registered a remarkable 79 percent decrease. Other important categories of crime also recorded reductions of 37 percent and 44 percent. These figures matter because serious crimes directly affect the public’s sense of security and confidence in law-enforcement institutions.

The performance of a police command should also be judged by the quality of investigation and action against criminal elements. The RIB figures show 102 cases in 2024, 83 in 2025 and 69 in 2026, making a total of 254 cases. These figures demonstrate continued activity against wanted and criminal elements and reflect an effort to make policing more result-oriented.

Another important indicator is the response to citizens’ complaints. The available figures show that 142 applications were dealt with in 2024, 189 in 2025 and 220 in 2026, making a total of 551 applications over three years. A police system becomes credible when citizens feel that their complaints are heard and followed up through proper channels. Attention to public complaints is therefore not merely an administrative requirement; it is an essential part of public service and confidence-building.

The RPO’s leadership also deserves recognition for focusing on the internal functioning of police stations and field supervision. Effective policing requires senior officers to remain connected with the field, inspect police stations, monitor records, review investigations and ensure that citizens are treated with respect. Such supervision creates accountability among subordinate officers and encourages professional performance.

The welfare of police martyrs and Ghazis is another significant aspect of the performance report. Sheikhupura Region has 121 martyrs and 157 Ghazis, while Rs. 18.657 million has been allocated for their welfare. In addition, 36 families of martyrs have been provided plots, while 27 children have received laptops. These measures carry special significance because the families of police martyrs deserve continued institutional support and recognition for the sacrifices made by their loved ones.

Modern policing cannot focus only on crimes after they occur. Prevention must remain the first priority. Attention to vulnerable sections, sensitive locations, security arrangements and surveillance is essential. The available performance details indicate that Sheikhupura Region Police has continued to focus on preventive security measures, particularly during sensitive occasions, religious gatherings and important public activities.

The fight against drugs is equally important. Drug trafficking destroys young lives and contributes to other forms of crime. Effective action against drug dealers and organized criminal networks is therefore essential for long-term public safety. Police operations against such elements need to be supported by intelligence, professional investigation and continuous monitoring. This remains an important part of the wider crime-prevention strategy.

These results provide a basis for acknowledging the direction of policing in Sheikhupura Region. However, performance figures should never replace accountability. Crime reductions must be supported by transparent data, investigations must meet professional and legal standards, and citizens’ complaints must receive fair, timely responses. Where performance falls short, corrective action should follow.

Good policing is a collective achievement. An RPO provides direction and supervision, but implementation depends on SPs, DSPs, SHOs, investigators, patrol officers and other personnel. Their performance should be judged on merit, while negligence or misconduct should be addressed through due process.

The available figures including a 26 percent reduction in overall crime, a 15 percent decline in murder, a 47 percent reduction in attempted murder and a 79 percent reduction in robbery present an encouraging picture. The handling of 551 citizens’ applications over three years and welfare measures for police martyrs and Ghazis further indicate attention to public service and institutional welfare.

The real test, however, is whether these gains can be sustained and translated into greater public confidence. Citizens should be able to approach a police station without fear, expect impartial treatment, receive timely investigation and see action taken against criminals regardless of influence or status. Equally, police officers must know that good performance will be recognized while negligence, abuse of authority and failure to perform will attract appropriate accountability.

For Sheikhupura Region, the way forward should therefore be clear: reduce crime, improve investigations, strengthen public service and make accountability a permanent part of policing. Performance statistics should be reviewed regularly, weaknesses identified openly, and responsibility fixed wherever required. Such an approach will ensure that improvements are not merely reflected in official reports but are genuinely experienced by citizens.

The RPO’s leadership can provide the direction, but sustainable success will ultimately depend on institutional discipline, professional policing and measurable accountability at every level. If these principles remain central to policing in Sheikhupura Region, the region can continue to move towards a system that is not only effective against crime but also responsive, transparent and worthy of public trust.
