Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi and PTI Karachi President Khurram Sherzaman on Tuesday visited Mehmoodabad Nullah to monitor water drainage situation there after heavy rains lashed the city. On the occasion, Ali Zaidi said that they were trying to make Karachi better, adding Hyderabad Mirpur Khas has sunk in rain water. “But Karachi is an economic hub, If Karachi sneezes, Pakistan gets flu.” He added that “I would request the Sindh government to go to their areas and monitor rescue process themselves.” The minister said that n the first phase, removing encroachments on three major drains was the responsibility of the Sindh government. After that, drain cleaning is the responsibility of NDMA and FWO. He informed media that the Karachi administrator will come after consultations, adding that the Sindh government will propose names first then it will be decided. Governor Ismail said, “We have come here to see the arrangements. This time the adverse situation needs more attention because of the heavy and incessant rains. We don’t want anyone to be happy.” He said a concerted effort is needed to clean up Karachi’s garbage. Ali Zaidi and Asad Umar are on the Karachi committee from the federation. The affairs of Karachi should be straightened out. The Governor denied that there was no thought of making Karachi a part of the federation. He asserted that the young generation has never seen a good Karachi. “We just want to give a better Karachi to future generations.”
