LAHORE – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the prevailing cold wave and dense fog to persist in Lahore and parts of Pakistan during the next two days.
As per the synoptic situation, continental air persists over most parts of Pakistan.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in Lahore and most parts of Pakistan on Sunday evening/night, Monday and Tuesday.
Freezing and partly cloudy weather is expected in northern areas of Pakistan.
Frost is likely to occur in the Potohar region and Kashmir during morning hours.
Dense fog/smog is likely to prevail in Punjab (Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Jhelum, Mangla, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Toba Tek Singh, Khanewal, Multan, Khanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Hafizabad, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan and surroundings), plains of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during the period.
Dense fog/smog may force the closure of Motorways and disrupt traffic on other inter and intra-city roads including the National Highway.
Lahore’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03-05 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a cold wave prevailed in Lahore and most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours.
Gupis remained the coldest place in Pakistan where mercury dropped 06 C below freezing.
In Lahore, the minimum temperature was recorded at 05 C.
Relative humidity during the morning was recorded at 100 per cent.
Dense fog prevailed in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Fog update for Motorways
Dense fog/smog forced the closure of Motorways (Peshawar-Swabi, Swabi-Islamabad, Islamabad-Kallar Kahar, Kallar Kahar-Pindi Bhattian, Pindi Bhattian-Lahore, Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad, Lahore-Abdul Hakim, Sialkot-Lahore, Faisalabad-Multan, Multan-Sukkur and Mianwali-Dera Ismail Khan).
Fog update for National Highway
It also disrupted traffic on the National Highway and other inter and intra-city roads.
