China produced nearly 150,000 sets of robots in 2018, accounting for more than 38 percent of the world’s total, said the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology at the 2019 World Robot Conference (WRC) which started Tuesday in Chinese capital Beijing.
Miao Wei, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said robots are important in promoting high-quality development despite the challenges facing the industry.
“The development of the robotics industry faces many problems and challenges – core technologies need to be further improved; scenarios and areas of their application need to be broadened; laws and regulations to prevent and control their risks need to be perfected.
But in general, robots are still an important impetus to promote the replacement of old growth drivers with new ones through high-quality economic development,” said Miao.
Chinese Institute of Electronics released a report on the development of China’s robot industry at the event.
The report shows the global robot market will hit 29.4 billion U.S. dollars in 2019 and the robot market in China will reach 8.68 billion U.S. dollars.
From 2014 to 2019, the annual growth rate of China’s robot market stands at 20.9 percent, the report says.
Themed “Intelligent Ecosystem for a New Open Era,” this year’s World Robot Conference attracted 180 research institutions and robotics companies from around the world.
Exhibitors brought more than 700 of the latest robot research achievements, including specialized robots, industrial robots and service robots that dazzled visitors at the event.
A medical robot showed its proficiency, flexibility and accuracy by sewing a grape.
Lu Jingxi, an exhibitor, said the robot can fully meet the requirements of surgeons.
“Its precision can be controlled within one millimeter, fully satisfying the requirements of surgeons.
Moreover, the endoscope can enlarge the operation area, which will make operation more precise,” said Lu.
Forums and robot contests will be held during the six-day event with more than 4,500 professionals from more than 20 countries and regions to compete.
Now in its fifth year, World Robot Conference has become a diversified platform for technology exchange and industrial cooperation among robotics practitioners worldwide.—CCTVPLUS
