The international market mirrored the same gloomy sentiment. Gold prices fell by $33, with the global rate standing at $4,080 per ounce (including a $20 premium), as per APGJSA data.
Silver also lost its shine — dropping by Rs27 per tola to close at Rs5,097, signaling an across-the-board dip in precious metals.
Experts say the sudden drop comes amid a stronger U.S. dollar and growing optimism over U.S.-China trade talks, which have weakened demand for safe-haven assets like gold. Global traders are also keeping a close eye on major central bank meetings expected later this week, hoping for hints on future monetary policy moves.
At 0158 GMT, spot gold was trading 0.7% lower at $4,082.77 per ounce, while U.S. gold futures for December delivery slipped 1% to $4,095.80.
