DHAKA – The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to announce its final decision on participation in the T20 World Cup on January 21, the latest reports suggested.
The board maintained its reservations about traveling to India for the tournament, and discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC) are underway.
During a recent meeting with an ICC delegation in Dhaka, the BCB requested that its matches be relocated to a venue outside India but the ICC rejected the request and reminded the board of the tournament’s deadline.
Bangladesh had also sought a group change, proposing to swap places with Ireland in Group B, but the ICC did not approve this request.
The report further stated that the BCB refused to issue a visa to an Indian official who was part of the ICC delegation.
BCB President Nazmul Hasan said that even if Bangladesh decides not to participate, the board would not face any financial losses. The ICC reportedly provided full security assurances to Bangladesh, and the BCB’s final response is awaited.
In case of withdrawal, the ICC may invite another team based on rankings, with Scotland being considered as a potential replacement.
