PESHAWAR – In a bid to ensure public safety and maintain order during the holy days of Ashura, authorities in Peshawar have announced the suspension of mobile phone services on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
According to a spokesperson for the police, the mobile phone service will be suspended starting Friday, 8th Muharram, shortly after Jumma (Friday) prayers. Services are expected to resume late Sunday night after 10 PM, following the conclusion of Ashura activities.
The decision is part of enhanced security measures aimed at preventing any untoward incidents during the religious processions. The spokesperson stated that the move would help improve surveillance in sensitive areas and support efforts to maintain peace during this critical time.
In addition to the mobile service shutdown, law enforcement agencies will deploy modern monitoring tools, including drone cameras, CCTV systems, and other surveillance technologies, to oversee the processions and ensure the safety of participants.
Ashura, observed on the 10th of Muharram, is a significant day in the Islamic calendar, marked with large gatherings and processions across Pakistan.
