On Thursday, Arshad won first-ever Olympic gold in athletics for his country with a javelin throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record.
Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra secured the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters. Arshad was the only Pakistani athlete funded by the National Sports Board, and his performance included the only throws over 90 meters in the Games.
