The All Pakistan Postal Circle/Regional Offices (APPCO) Employees Union (CBA) in an urgently called meeting has expressed its anguish and dismay at the Director General (DG) office’s ‘unnecessary’ orders of shifting of FCAJK&GB Postal Circle from Islamabad to Muzaffarabad.
The meeting that was chaired by APPCO Secretary General Abdul Maroof Azad rejected the DG’s ‘uncalled-for’ directions and demanded their immediate withdrawal.
A number of employees at the Islamabad circle, while opposing the move by the DG Pakistan Post said this would add to the problems of the employees who are already overworked and overburdened, still performing their duties with utmost dedication and devotion.
The Director General has been misled by some vested interests and was made to believe that such an act (abolition of regional office and merger of Islamabad and Muzaffarabad) will result in saving of expenses and improvement in performance, while in fact, such a hasty move is bound to raise expenditure of the department and will also affect morale of the employees, said they.
Moreover, they held while the move will dislocate and dislodge the employees of the Islamabad region from the federal capital to other parts of AJK a large number of hand-picked officers will be posted in the surroundings of the capital that will affect the performance of the Pakistan Post that is known for its efficiency, output and delivery.
“We shall protest this anti-worker move by the DG Post and go to the last end to resist it,” they said.
A strategy to protest abolition of regional office and merger of Islamabad with Muzaffarabad was also discussed in the meeting and it was decided that all options would be utilized ranging from peaceful protest to holding a sit-in and going on strike for an indefinite period.
The meeting was also addressed by the APPCO Employees’ Union leaders including Chairman Shahid Ali Khan, President Ghulam Nabi, General Secretary Raja Muhammad Javed, Press Secretary Hassan Anwar, Finance Secretary Haji Muhammad Nawaz and Media Coordinator Shoaib Jhangvi.
