Chief of Aam Log Ittehad (ALI) Justice (R) Wajihuddin has reiterated to continue with the struggle for clean and fair politics in the country, come what may. “My ideology and thinking are the same since inception of the party in 2016.” Although he understands that there is “no place” for people like him, who had worked for the rule of law and implementation of the Constitution, but a retired senior justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, human rights activist, and a legal scholar, who is the son of highly-reputed Chief Justice of West Pakistan High Court and Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice WaheeduddinAhmed,is adamant for real democratic Pakistan, rule by the common people. He was talking to a group of media persons calling on him recently at his residence. The man who refused to take the oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO) in the year 2000, says to date he has not compromised on principles and never do so in future. He informed that his party, ALI, is in reformative stage. The party elections in Sindh and Punjab have taken place and due to pandemic restrains there was lukewarm response in Balochistan and KP, but he said he intended to visit the two provinces and things will improve after that. “Despite hurdles in the registration process, my party has grown considerably in four years and taking roots among masses.” The jurist-turned politician is of the view that a current political situation is at melting point as the incumbent government has failed miserably. If the national government proposal did not get a nod of powers to be then the running regime would complete its tenure. “Like others, the ALI is watching the situation keenly and would play its part in a positive and prudent way.” About the structure of his party, the reformer said that we have adopted the Chinese model of bringing in the fresh blood in strategic positions after certain period so that thinking and working don’t get rusty and stalled and things move swiftly. The ALI chief says that there are signs local establishment is switching from the clutches of US hold to China and Russia block and sees it as a beneficial move for the country. The strong-headed man also considers ‘Corruption’ as the number-one problem being faced by Pakistan and calls for tackling the menace upfront. In this regard, he supports increase in accountability courts but says first the vacancy of judges in already formed courts be met. ALI gains success and becomes a popular party or not it all depends on the working of party cadres and the will of the nation but a good thing is that one gets rejuvenated with hope and vigour by meeting a man with sane thinking and unblemished character
