Mohammad Amir Joins Kandahar Warriors For Afghanistan Premier League As British Player

KABUL – Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has become part of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL), securing a place in the Kandahar Warriors squad during the tournament’s player draft in Dubai.

Amir was selected by Kandahar Warriors with the first pick in the platinum category, making him one of the prominent international signings in the ongoing Afghanistan Premier League draft.

The left-arm fast bowler will participate in the tournament as a British player after registering for the league using his British citizenship.

His participation comes amid reports that several Pakistani cricketers have registered for the Afghanistan Premier League, hoping to feature in the inaugural or upcoming edition of the competition.

However, sources said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to issue No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to Pakistani players seeking to participate in the league.

Amir, however, does not require an NOC from the PCB because he will be representing himself as a British citizen rather than registering as a Pakistani player. His selection is expected to attract considerable attention, given his international experience and reputation as one of Pakistan’s prominent fast bowlers.

Amir represented Pakistan in international cricket across all three formats and played a key role in several memorable victories, including the country’s triumph in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20 and the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.

The pacer retired from international cricket in 2020 before making himself available for various franchise-based T20 competitions. The Afghanistan Premier League draft is being held in Dubai. The franchises are selecting players across different categories to strengthen their squads for the tournament.
