SYDNEY – Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtain down on a career spanning more than a decade.
An international cricket website reported that the 38-year-old made the announcement on Monday, ending his journey in international cricket after representing Australia across all three formats.
Known for his aggressive batting and ability to hit towering sixes, Glenn Maxwell was part of Australia’s victorious ODI World Cup campaigns in 2015 and 2023, as well as the country’s T20 World Cup-winning squad in 2021.
During his international career, Maxwell represented Australia in seven Test matches, 149 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 130 T20 Internationals. He made his ODI debut against Afghanistan in August 2012 and went on to score 3,990 runs in the format. His highest ODI score was 201, while he also claimed 77 wickets.
Maxwell made his T20 International debut against Pakistan in September 2012. He featured in 130 matches, scoring 2,897 runs and taking 51 wickets. His highest individual score in the shortest format was 145. The all-rounder made his Test debut against India in 2013 and played seven matches for Australia. His highest Test score was 104, also against India, while his best bowling figures were four wickets for 127 runs.
Despite his reputation as an explosive batter, Maxwell had struggled for consistency in recent times. He announced his retirement from ODI cricket in June 2025. His final appearance for Australia came against Oman during the 2026 T20 World Cup, marking the end of his international playing career.
