ISLAMABAD – Banks across Pakistan are set to observe three consecutive holidays during next month of November 2026.
The banks will remained closed from November 7 to 9, as the weekend will be followed by a public holiday on account of Allama Iqbal Day, allowing customers to plan their banking activities accordingly.
According to the federal government’s official holiday calendar for 2026, Monday, November 9, will be observed as a public holiday to mark the birth anniversary of national poet Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The holiday falls immediately after the regular Saturday and Sunday weekend, creating a three-day break.
Banks and other institutions that follow the regular weekend schedule are expected to remain closed during the period, although customers should check with their respective banks for any specific arrangements or services available during the holidays.
The consecutive holidays mean customers may need to complete essential branch-based transactions before the weekend to avoid inconvenience.
Those planning to make payments, deposit documents or carry out other activities requiring in-person banking services are advised to make arrangements in advance.
The extended break will also apply to government offices and schools that remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays, followed by Monday’s public holiday.
Allama Iqbal Day is observed annually on November 9 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal, one of the most prominent figures in Pakistan’s intellectual and literary history.
Known as the Poet of the East and the Philosopher-Poet, Iqbal was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877. His poetry and philosophical thought hold a significant place in the region’s literary heritage.
The November 9 holiday will be the first public holiday since Independence Day, which was observed on August 14, 2026.
